China-based company scrapes plans to sell Steve Jobs action figure

Some companies want to make a quick buck from the iconic inventor, Steve Jobs. A China-based firm has scrapped plans to market an action figure made to resemble the late Apple founder Steve Jobs following "immense pressure" from lawyers.

Chinese firm In Icons had planned to offer the one-foot-tall, lifelike figure dressed in Jobs' trademark black mock turtleneck, rimless glasses and jeans.

But the company posted a statement on its website on Sunday saying it had received 'immense pressure' to drop the plan and made the decision out of 'heartfelt sensitivity to the feelings of the Jobs family'.

The company's website (inicons.com) shows the figurine in lifelike poses alongside famous Jobs quotes, such as: "If you live each day as if it was your last, someday you'll most certainly be right."

The company manufacturing the dolls, Hong Kong-based DiD Corp, insisted earlier this month that the doll was not a toy, but a sincere tribute to the iconic innovator.

"We didn't put anything related to the Apple brand or Apple products, nor did we smear the image of Jobs," a DiD Corp official told AFP earlier this month. "We are making this for Apple fans."

Last year Apple -- the maker of iPhones, iPads, iPods and Macintosh computers -- blocked the sale of unauthorized Steve Jobs bobble-head dolls made by a different company in China.
Jobs died on October 5 at the age of 56 after battling cancer for several years.

DiD Corp also offers military action figures and one of US President Barack Obama, according to its website.

Naked 60-year old woman go on street rampage

Now that we think about it, it probably is really hard to even try and control a naked 60-year-old woman on a rampage. Especially when she is running through a Chinese restaurant in Bay Ridge or running out into the street to spread eagle on the roof of a car. Police were eventually able to control the woman, but not before a crowd of nearly 300 onlookers gathered to watch her public meltdown.

The incident took place after 3 p.m. on Thursday in Bay Ridge on Third Avenue between 80th and 81st Streets. The woman in question, who police are declining to identify, was apparently a regular on the strip known for muttering to herself but had never been known to do anything like this. Apparently what set her off was seeing something that said "Free" (possibly "free delivery") in the window of Dragon China between 79th and 80th Streets. When the cashier there told her that everything wasn't free the woman started screaming, stripping her clothes off and throwing things around.
"This old lady was trashing the place," Noreen Monier, who owns a nearby store, told The Brooklyn paper. "I told her to stop and she threw a watermelon at me. She had superhuman strength. She said, 'I’ll stop when I’m good and ready.'" She really had at the place, too. Reportedly picking up phones, answering calls and throwing money around.

After doing more damage there the woman moved to the streets and laid down on the hood of a black convertible, whose driver didn’t know what to do. Finally, the police get her under control, but it took a lot of effort.

At least nobody was hurt. It is unclear if the woman, who is clearly disturbed, has been charged with anything at this time.

Brazilian police ram moving plane to apprehend smugglers

If you saw it on a TV police show, you would dismiss it as being too far-fetched.
Consider: Machine gun-wielding officers use their car to chase and then ram into a moving plane, smashing off a wing, to stop it from taking to the air.

The reason they did it? The plane contains a gang of drug smugglers.

But, astonishingly, this is a real scenario and the video of it has been posted to the internet.
It is the work of Brazilian Federal Police in Ribeirão Preto.
The understandably shaky camerawork, shot from the car's back seat during the high-speed pursuit, puts the viewer inside the remarkable operation.

As it opens an armed officer hangs out of the window brandishing a large black gun as the car chases down the slow-moving plane down a dust road at a remote airstrip.

He ducks his head back inside the car as the team takes the decision that their only option is to ram the plane to prevent take-off.

The police hit the light-aircraft on the left wing, and plough straight through it, before executing a 180-degree turn that sends dust plumes into the air.

Without hesitation, one of the officers scrambles from the vehicle, machine-gun still in hand, and runs towards the stricken plane, while his colleague lends back up in the car.

The video cuts off before anyone can emerge from the wreckage of the spun-around aircraft and the camera fades out on a shot from inside the car, briefly revealing the car's smashed windscreen.

The amazing operation allowed the police to arrest five suspects after a month-long investigation.

You can watch the video here.

Base jumper survives 880ft fall

27 year old Christopher Brewer survived a death jump of 880 feet from the Fayette Ville bridge in Virginia.

The young man wore a specially designed wing suit and a parachute for the extreme height jump during the annual Bridge Day Festivities, attended by more than 100,000 spectators.

Everything seemed OK, until Brewer pulled the tug cord to open his chute that failed to open at the right height causing the jumper to smack into the river at 80 miles per hour.

The man survived the fall in part because of the wing suit he wore, although he didn’t come off it completely uninjured.

Brewer sustained a hip fracture and damage to his spine and lungs from the impact on the water. He is listed in stable condition.

Brewer was the second jumper whose jump didn’t go as planned on Bridge Day Celebration. Earlier another jumper had been carted off to the hospital with serious injuries when his parachute failed to open as well.

Base jumping is an acronym that stands for four categories of fixed objects from which one can jump: buildings, antennas, spans (bridges), and earth (cliffs).

To be considered a base jumper, a person must have made at least one jump from each of the four categories.

BASE jumping is one of the world’s most dangerous recreational activities, with overall fatalities in 2002 estimated at about one death per sixty participants.

Man eats roadkill animals for the past 30 years

Jonathan McGowan, an English taxidermist from Bournemouth, Dorset doesn’t like the way farm animals are being treated and has led him to eat roadkill instead of supermarket meat for the last 30 years.

44-year-old Jonathan McGowan first tasted roadkill at the age of 14, when he cooked a dead adder. It didn’t taste very good, but it did make him curious about how other dead animals might taste like. ‘From a young age I was always interested in natural history and being brought up amongst the farming, hunting and shooting communities of the Dorset countryside meant I was right in the middle of everything. Everywhere I looked there were dead animals; fish that had been caught, pheasants that had been shot and animals that had been run over in the road so naturally I became drawn to nature and how it worked.” He remembers he used to cut up dead animals to see their insides and all he could see was fresh organic meat better than what he saw in any meat shops. That’s why he didn’t see any problem with cooking and eating it. His parents knew he was bringing animals home to stuff, but he didn’t tell them he sometimes ate them too, because he knew they wouldn’t approve.

Although he admits he first started eating roadkill out of his teenage desire to be different, Jonathan McGowan says that even at 14 he realized what he was doing was better than eating supermarket meat because of the ways animals are treated. He remembers growing up close to a broiler production unit where there were always three layers of chickens. The dead, rotting birds at the bottom, the squashed ones in the middle and the chicken who could barely move, at the top. ’I saw how dirty farm animals were and how unhealthy they were. I was also used to going to the cattle market where the treatment of the animals by the farmers was grotesque. I wasn’t happy about what I saw at all,’ he says.

McGowan, who has been eating roadkill for the last 30 years, has been giving presentations at schools and colleges and throwing roadkill dinner parties for his friends. What’s on the menu, you ask? Rat stir fries and owl curry are very popular, but pigeon au vin and other recipes containing meats like fox, hedgehog, squirrel or wild cat are also said to be very tasty. The taxidermist never kills the animals, he only picks those that have died accidentally on the road and in the surrounding woodland. When they hear about his eating habits, most people believe it’s a brilliant idea, but there are those who think it’s cruel, unhygienic and macabre. Jonathan says his choice “is rooted in respect for the environment” and says that if there was no more roadkill available he would be a vegetarian rather than eating shop meat pumped full of hormones.

I couldn't imagine myself having the appetite like McGowan to eat smashed up animals ran over by cars. Eewww...

Life-Size Ford Explorer Replica Built from LEGO Bricks

Lego and Ford come together to celebrate their new launches, a theme park in Orlando Florida and a new Explorer SUV respectively. Lego actually builds a life size Explorer SUV out of 380,000 lego bricks and it weighs 2,600 pounds. It took 22 builders to do it in 2,500 hours piecing together this incredibly detailed replica. The completed LEGO SUV weighs in at 2,654 pounds, almost half the weight of the 4,503-pound real deal.

It will be exhibited at the Legoland Florida theme-park where it will hopefully boost sales of the original model.

A cat with 2 faces

People claim that cats have nine lives. But this very special and much loved cat was born with two faces.
Frankenlouie, who lives with his owner in Milbury, Massachusetts, has a genetic birth deformity which caused him to grow the extra facial features.
The extraordinary feline's two faces were caused by a condition called Janus, which normally causes cats to live for only a few days.
But the unusual pet has beaten the odds to live long enough to celebrate his 12th birthday.
Now the feat of survival has earned him a place in the Guinness World Records.
Frankenlouie is already an internet star who has notched up thousands of hits on You Tube.
And the one-in-a million mog has featured on TV shows such as 'Strange, Freaky, True'.
The cat's owner is former a veterinary nurse who does not want to be identified.
Now, that's really against all odds.

'Scarlett Johansson' naked photo recreated in many hilarious shots

After images purportedly showing Scarlett Johansson posing almost naked in front of a mirror went viral online, dozens of imitators have posted their own snaps recreating the pose on Facebook.

Last week, a photo showing a woman who resembles the 26-year-old actress holding a towel with her rear reflected in a mirror behind her appeared on the internet.

Since then, a number of people have uploaded similar snaps revealing their bare derriere in a mirror.

The posers have submitted their interpretations to a dedicated 'Scarlett Johanssoning' Facebook page.

As well as saucy snaps of near-nude women, there are some very much tongue-in-cheek attempts to recreate the photo.
A Barbie doll, Ernie from Sesame Street, Paddington bear, Donald Duck and even a pug dog have been photographed in similar poses.

A few men have also got in on the action, including one who used Photoshop to superimpose a picture of a woman's bronzed bottom in the reflective surface behind him.
Even the art world has got involved, with US artist Dan Lacey imagining President Obama as Scarlett in a bizarre new painting.

Although it cannot be confirmed if the original picture is indeed of the Lost In Translation star, one of the photos that has been leaked shows a tattoo on the woman's left arm - similar to one Scarlett has been photographed showing before.

Reports surfaced earlier this year that a group of opportunist hackers stole nude photos from up to 50 A-list celebrities, including Scarlett, after breaking into their email accounts.

Without confirming or denying whether the revealing naked snaps are indeed of his client, Scarlett’s lawyer Marty Singer has spoken out, asserting that the actress owns the 'stolen copyright protected private photographs'.

The FBI is currently investigating the hacking attack and is said to be closing in on those responsible for the computer intrusion.

For comparison purposes, below is claimed to be the real Scarlett Johansson.

Miniature Lamborghini Aventador cost 12 times more than a real one

A German model maker has unveiled his finest creation yet – a scale model of a Lamborghini Aventador worth over three million pounds. Robert Gülpen has built the most expensive car model in the world – a 1:8 scale replica of the Lamborghini Aventador made from carbon, platinum gold and decorated with precious stones.

Robert Gülpen has been working on miniature model cars for over a decade now. The 52 year old took up the hobby after retiring from his career as a mechanical engineer. Gülpen started making miniature car models from precious metals in the late 1990s which includes the Morgan Aero 8; Mercedes Benz 500 SL and Aston Martin DB5 from precious metals and gems and eventually became a renown miniature car model maker.

He decided the cutting edge Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 would be the perfect choice for his greatest masterpiece.  The body of the car is made from carbon, just like the original, and features precious metals and stones. Metal was used for the detailed rims and diamonds were inserted into the seats, steering wheel and headlights.

It took the German artist 500 hours to complete the world’s most expensive car model, but he now stands to receive more than a fair compensation. His little Lamborghini Aventador is scheduled to be auctioned off in December, by Sotheby’s, in either Dubai or New York, with a starting price of €3.5 million, nearly 12 times more than a real Aventador LP 700-4 (€303,450). But, if a buyer doesn’t feel like waiting until then, they can pay €4.5 million and take home the car. It will be displayed under bullet-proof glass and electronic safeguards to protect the potential buyer's investment at the upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show starting September 25.

I couldn't even afford a real Lamborghini Aventador and what more a extremely expensive Aventador by Gülpen. If I can afford one, I'll rather choose a real Aventador to have the ultimate driving experience rather than a miniature that I can only put in a safe. This toy is most likely for a person who is loaded with extra cash till the extend he/she has no where else to spend!

Man cuts off toes to free himself

A gutsy 61-year-old retired logger feared he might die alone in a remote Colorado forest after his right foot was pinned under his truck.
Mr Hutt holding the pocket knife he used to cut his toes

With few choices, he used a 7.5-centimetre pocket knife to cut off all five toes to get free.
"It hurt so bad," Jon Hutt said, "I would cut for a while and then I had to rest."
Mr Hutt then climbed into his semi-trailer, his foot wrapped in a shirt, and began driving for help.

He had gone into the woods by himself on August 19 to retrieve a pile of fallen aspen trees to cut for winter firewood. A trailer that was attached to his truck slipped and landed on his foot.

He told The Associated Press that he began cutting off his toes about 30 minutes later when he realised no one could hear his cries for help. He said he could not reach his mobile phone, which was in his pick-up and out of range anyway.

Mr Hutt told his wife he would be back in several hours, but he did not know when she might start searching for him.

"I cut off my boot to see my foot, and once I realised how bad it was, I started cutting off my toes," Mr Hutt said.

Once he freed himself, he stopped the bleeding with a shirt and drove toward his home outside Montrose, about 280 kilometres south-west of Denver. He called for help once he was in mobile phone range. An ambulance met him on the way.

Mr Hutt said authorities retrieved his severed toes and took them to the hospital, but doctors said the toes could not be reattached because they were too badly mangled.

Hospital spokeswoman Leann Tobin said Mr Hutt was released on August 22.

Mr Hutt said he never thought about the 2003 ordeal of Aaron Ralston, who amputated his right arm after it was pinned beneath a boulder in a Utah canyon, until someone reminded him about it at the hospital.

Mr Ralston's story became the subject of the movie 127 Hours.

Ouch, I wouldn't have the guts to do what Mr Hutt and Ralston did. When I watched the movie 127 Hours, I couldn't imagine myself in that situation and amputating without anesthetics is unbearable.

A Santa Fe State Police officer was photographed having sex with a women on the hood of a car. The above photo was taken at Santa Fe Canyon Ranch, where the officer is seen wearing his entire uniform and having sex in broad daylight. The Santa Fe Sheriff’s office has refused to comment on the matter.

The bizarre scene, which was witnessed by a nearby chihuahua, was filmed by a hidden camera set up by New Mexico police to catch vandalism at a nearby property.

Woman bought a fake wooden iPad

A US woman thought she had snared a bargain when she forked out $168 for what she believed was an iPad, only to discover she had just purchased a very expensive piece of wood.
Ashley McDowell, 22, bought the item from two men in the parking lot of a McDonald's restaurant in Spartanburg county, South Carolina overnight.

The men said they had bought the iPads in bulk and were selling them for only $280, a sharp reduction from the $465 US retail price.

Ms McDowell told the men she only had $168, which they accepted, giving her a FedEx box which they assured her had an iPad inside.

It was not until Ms McDowell was driving home that she opened the package and realised she had just bought a block of wood with a painted on Apple logo.

The screen was also painted on, framed with black tape and had stickers attached representing a web browser, email inbox and iPhoto.

"Basically what they'd done is taken a screenshot of an iPad screen turned on, with a copy of a Best Buy sales ticket on front. On the back they'd pasted a cut-out of the Apple logo," Lieutenant Tony Ivey, a public information officer at the Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office said, The Smoking Gun reports.

Now I would call that an iPlank!

Brad Pitt saves woman in real life

It was in that instant that the hunky actor reportedly became a bona fide hero as Brad Pitt aided an injured woman. She was acting as background while the zombie movie shoots in Scotland when the incident happened and when Pitt came to the rescue just before this person was badly injured.

The scene in which this heroic rescue took place depicted an epic zombie invasion, one that obviously became not only chaotic, but also very dangerous. All of this action went down in George Square where the Glasgow landmark and immediate area had been transformed to stand in for Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

So that's exactly where one extra slipped an Wednesday, thus needing the assistance of the featured thespian -- or anyone at all, for that matter.

But it was Brad Pitt who helped this helpless (ad, some say, lucky) woman as the World War Z zombies took over, she being one of them. After his chivalrous rescue, the actor continued to perform since the accident occurred while the cameras were rolling. If he stopped, the next take would have been even more difficult in all ways possible so Brad kept doing his job as any professional would.

Meanwhile, according to a UK source, Brad Pitt and director Peter Mullan were concerned about how many had been hurt while making the movie thriller. In fact, not only did the woman who Brad Pitt saved suffer a "badly grazed knee" but "loads of [other] extras suffered bumps and scrapes" as well as "broken bones." These actors were pushed and shoved in all directions, making unexpected contact with military personnel carrying machine guns, gargantuan film cameras, and even moving vehicles.

Allegedly, a safety pep talk was held prior to this activity, telling the hundreds of background players on World War Z to be careful. And that lesson was hopefully learned as Brad Pitt continues to film his World War Z zombie movie in which he plays UN staffer Gerry Lane, a man who travels great distances to try to stop the zombie population from taking over the world. That said, at least the male half of Brangelina helped stop one zombie in her tracks while saving her all at the same time. A happy ending after all.

Stuntman falls to his death

A wing walker plunged 200ft feet to his death when his air show stunt went disastrously wrong - but tragically many in the crowd thought his fall was part of the act.

As these terrifying pictures show, Todd Green, 48, had been attempting to grab on to a helicopter hovering above a bi-plane as part of a death-defying stunt.
But as he reached for the metal landing skid on the helicopter he slipped and fell to his death.
Many in the 75,000 crowd at the air show in Selfridge, near Detroit, Michigan, thought the fall was part of the show and that a dummy had been thrown to the ground.
It was only when emergency crews rushed out to the stricken wing walker that they realised it was an accident.
Officials said Green, a father of two, had tried to grab hold of the helicopter from a Stearman aircraft at Selfridge Air National Guard Base, in Harrison Township, on two occasions, and slipped as he made a third attempt.
An ambulance took him to Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center, but he died from his injuries.
Witnesses expressed surprise that Mr Green did not have a parachute, but even if he had it may not have opened in time as he was only 200ft above the ground.
Green had reportedly been performing aerial stunts for more than 25 years and is survived by his wife Dawn, son Tyler and stepson Derrick. You can watch his video here.

My condolences to Mr. Todd Green and his family.

Steve Jobs resigns as CEO of Apple

Silicon Valley legend Steve Jobs on Wednesday resigned as chief executive of Apple Inc in a stunning move that ended his 14-year reign at the technology giant he co-founded in a garage.

Apple shares dived as much as 7 percent in after-hours trade after the pancreatic cancer survivor and industry icon, who has been on medical leave for an undisclosed condition since January 17, announced he will be replaced by COO and longtime heir apparent Tim Cook.

Analysts do not expect Jobs' resignation -- which had long been foreseen -- to derail the company's fabled product-launch roadmap, including possibly a new iPhone in September and a third iteration of the iPad tablet in 2012.

"I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come," he said in a brief letter announcing his resignation.

The 55-year-old CEO had briefly emerged from his medical leave in March to unveil the latest version of the iPad and later to attend a dinner hosted by President Barack Obama for technology leaders in Silicon Valley.

Jobs' often-gaunt appearance has sparked questions about his health and his ability to continue at Apple.
"I will say to investors: don't panic and remain calm, it's the right thing to do. Steve will be chairman and Cook is CEO," said BGC Financial analyst Colin Gillis.

Apple shares slid to $357.40 in extended trading after a brief halt. They had gained 0.7 percent to close at $376.18 on the Nasdaq.

Analysts again expressed confidence in the Apple bench, headed by longtime company No. 2 and supply-chain maven Cook.

"Investors are very comfortable with Tim Cook even though Jobs has been a driver of innovation and clearly an Apple success. Tim has shown Apple can still outperform extremely well when he's been acting as CEO," said Cross Research analyst Shannon Cross.

"I don't know if it's a health issue. I don't know if it is a shock. Most likely it was going to happen at some point. Why today versus another day? I don't know."

Man bought a luxury house for $16!

If someone you knew claimed to have bought a new house for $16, you’d probably expect it to be a rundown hut.

But for Kenneth Robinson, that princely sum could see him as the new owner of a $300,000 home in a well-manicured part of Flower Mound, Texas.

Robinson took advantage of a little known Texas law to move into the abandoned home.
The house had been in foreclosure for more than a year and its owner walked away.

Then, the mortgage company went bust.

After months of research, Robinson used the obscure law ‘adverse possession’, filled out some paperwork costing just $16, and moved some of his belongings into the home.

Under the law, if someone moves into an abandoned home they have exclusive negotiating rights with the original owner.

If the owner wants them to leave, they have to pay off the mortgage debt on the home and the bank has to file a complicated lawsuit to get them evicted.

Robinson believes that because of the cost required to move him out, he will be able to stay in the house. Under occupancy laws, if he remains there for three years he can ask the court for the title.

He told WFAA.com: ‘I want to be owner of record. At this point, because I possess it, I am the owner.
‘This is not a normal process, but it is not a process that is not known. It’s just not known to everybody.’

Robinson printed out an online form at the Denton County courthouse which states that he is claiming ownership of the abandoned property.

The house has just a few pieces of furniture inside and has no running water or electricity.

Robinson has put ‘no trespassing’ signs outside the house after neighbors called police to arrest him for breaking in.

But he claimed to have found a key and said he gained access to the property legally.

Police have said they can’t remove him from the property because home ownership is a civil matter.
But neighbors have accused him of being nothing more than a squatter.

Leigh Lowrie, who lives nearby, said: ‘What paperwork is it and how is it legally binding if he doesn’t legally own the house? He just squats there.

‘If he wants the house, buy the house like everyone else had to. Get the money, buy the house.’

To me, it sounds like the neighbors are jealous that this dude bought a house for a song!

Mexican man claims he found a fairy

An unemployed 22-year-old bricklayer claims he has found a fairy in this western Mexican metropolis.

Jose Maldonado, who charges a monetary “donation” in exchange for displaying what appears to be a simple plastic figure kept in a container of formaldehyde, says he has already received 3,000 visits from people eager to see the so-called fairy at his home in Lomas Verdes, one of Guadalajara’s poorest and most dangerous neighbourhoods.

“I was picking guavas and I saw a twinkling. I thought it was a firefly. I picked it up and felt that it was moving; when I looked at it I knew that it was a fairy godmother,” Maldonado told EFE.

The tale of Maldonado’s discovery has run like wildfire through the area and his home is now besieged by the curious, some of whom wait for up to an hour to enter.

What Maldonado shows the paying public is a small container filled with formaldehyde containing a humanlike figure about 2 centimeters tall.

To be allowed to examine the “fairy” for a few seconds and take a photograph of it, the curious must make a donation to financially help out Maldonado who recently lost his job.

From the picture I see, the fairy looks fake to me. Now I’m heading down to the beach and probably I will find a mermaid there and charge a small “donation” if you want to come and see it!

5 year old girl may face murder charges

Many 5 year olds cannot read or write that well or even tie their own shoelace.

Recently in Kansas, America, a 5 year old girl is facing possibility of being charged for murder after she admitted that she dragged a crying toddler into a bathtub and held him under water until he stopped crying. The girl, who is not being identified because of her age, was left with 18-month-old Jermane Johnson Jr. on June 3 along with two other children and a 16-year-old girl who was supposed to be looking after them. The teenager had fallen asleep, police said.
18-month-old
Jermane Johnson

"I've been in law enforcement for 20 years and it's the youngest suspect I can remember," police spokesman Darin Snapp said. "It's extremely rare."

Kansas City police are waiting for a medical examiner's report on how Jermane Johnson Jr., died, but have investigated the death as a homicide, spokesman Darin Snapp said.

Is it possible to charge a kindergarten kid for murder? At this age, she wouldn’t be aware of the consequences of her action. She may not even know whether her actions are right or wrong. She has just started her life half a decade ago and if prosecutor is going ahead to charge her for murder, her future is ruined.
