Desperate Chinese College Student Takes Doctor Hostage

May 18, a freshman of a certain college in Wuhan surnamed Chen accidentally hit an 80-something-year-old lady while riding a bicycle. Then, because of issues over the medical expenses, he had a conflict with the old lady’s family where, in a moment of desperation, he took out a fruit knife and took a female doctor surnamed Duan hostage, requiring that he reach his intended destination before he would release her. 97 minutes after the Qingshan Public Security Sub-Bureau was notified, the hostage was successfully rescued. Throughout the entire rescue process, Dr. Duan’s left index finger was cut, and there was a knife cut on her neck.
The police are talking.
On the evening of the 18th at about 7pm, a large number of special police arrived at Wuhan No.9 Hospital in Qingshan, with many local residents also gathered around, looking on and discussing. In the direction of one city residents’ pointed finger, this reporter saw a young man sitting in the back seat of a police car, with his arm around a young woman’s neck, and a small knife in his other hand. The police car was surrounded by police officers, taking turns communicating with the young man, asking him to remain calm and not hurt the hostage.
The police are talking to Chen.
According to an eye witness, the kidnapping took place at about 6 o’clock in the evening, when the young man rushed into the emergency room office on the first floor of the hospital, kidnapped the female doctor at knife point, then yelled at people around to call the police. After the police arrived, the young man walked out of the hospital building holding his knife, and confronted the police in the hospital plaza. Then, under the persuasion of the police, the young man got into a police car with the hostage under his control.
The on-lookers at the scene.
According to another eye witness, this young man was a student at a nearby college, and had knocked over an old woman yesterday [May 17] while riding a bicycle. Afterwards, he accompanied the old woman with her family members to the hospital for examination. Because the injury was actually somewhat serious, the old woman’s family members asked him for compensation. The eye witness said: “I heard that the compensation is 300,000 yuan. Maybe the college student freaked out. He was even laughing as he kidnapped the doctor, his mental state a little abnormal.”
The police is negotiating with Chen.
The kidnapper clearly had lost control, yelling in the police car: “I’m willing to sit in your car, because I don’t want this to get more serious. Don’t push me. Take me to a safe place, and then I’ll let her go, and you also let me go!” This picture is of the college student holding his knife against the female doctor in the police car, the police negotiating with him.
The police car carrying Chen and Doctor Duan is leaving the hospital.
After a brief discussion, most of the police officers agreed that even though the nature of kidnapping is vile, the kidnapper was a college student, and what more, wasprobably from a rural area. His behavior too was a kind of drastic act of self-protection, though extreme, so it was better to take a less-heated approach and to persuade the hostage-taker. In the end, the police decided to drive the police car carrying the hostage and the kidnapper away from the hospital plaza.
The police car is at a remote location.
After the car was driven to Xudong from Youyi Avenue, Chen first demanded to go to Wuhan University of Technology, then he said he wanted to go to Wuhan University. Headquarters instructed that taking him to Wuhan University was absolutely out of the question, and ordered the car to drive to a remote location to wait for an opportunity to stage a rescue.
The police is taking Chen away.
In the car, everyone continuously chatted with Chen to pacify him. Dr. Duan was also very calm, without struggling at all, and thus Chen slowly calmed down. When the car approached the intersection of Heping Avenue and Xinsheng Road, concealed special police rushed the car from three directions, some grabbing Chen’s arms, some disarming him of his knife, and some to rescue the hostage. In a mere 52 seconds, they succeeded. Dr. Duan only suffered some superficial injuries, and the knife seized was a fruit knife.
The police is making the arrest.
This picture is of the moment of capture. After investigation, Chen is 18 years of age, comes from Hubei Nanzhang, is now a freshman at a certain university in Wuhan. Chen confessed that while riding a bicycle heading east on Youyi Avenue on his way back to school, he had hit and knocked over an old woman. The old woman’s right wrist became red and swollen, and Chen waned to offer her 100 yuan to settle it privately. The old woman had Chen take her home. After this, the old woman’s son drove them both to Wuhan City No.9 Hospital emergency room for examination, with the doctor who examined her being Dr. Duan. The old lady’s spent 102 yuan taking X-rays, which showed that she had a right wrist fracture, needed to be hospitalized, and had to put a 1,000 yuan deposit.
Dr. Duan is being escorted by the police into the car.
The kidnapped doctor—the one in white in the center—being escorted by police into a car. The old woman’s family members asked Chen for the money, but Chen only had 5 mao left on him. They wanted to confiscate Chen’s ID card. Chen thought “they were pushing too hard, I had no choice”, so he drew out the fruit knife he had with him and stabbed at the old woman’s family members. He missed, they got into a fight, during which Chen backed into the emergency room, and kidnapped Dr. Duan.
The college student Chen.
In the interrogation room, Chen kept asking the police: “Just how many years of jail time will I have to serve? Will my sentence be very severe?” After talking with the police, he gradually calmed down: “To tell you the truth, I was ready to kill someone at that point. Then after the police talked to me, I gradually calmed down. What I did was wrong.”

Grave robbers caught selling dead

A Chinese gang of grave robbers was caught trying to sell a dead woman into marriage – days after her family had done exactly the same thing. The woman’s devastated parents, from the rural Hebei Province near Beijing and with the surname Wu, initially chose to sell her body for £3,500, for a ‘ghost marriage’.

This is the ancient tradition where dead woman are united with bachelors to stop them wandering the afterlife alone.

But just days later grave robbers snatched her corpse and tried to pair her off, with another dead man in a nearby town.

Police caught the gang of five offering the woman to another family for £3,000, a slight discount to reflect several days of decomposition.

China’s Communists attempted to stamp out many traditions such as ‘ghost marriages’ after taking control in 1949.

But they have gradually regained popularity in recent years and a thriving underground ‘ghost marriage’ industry now exists in some parts of the country.

Black market businesses have sprung up, with many acting as cadaver brokers, matchmakers for the dead, body snatchers, crooked undertakers and grave robbers.

In 2007, a man was arrested after killing and then selling six women.

He claimed that ‘killing people and selling their bodies is less work than stealing them from graves.’

Thai man married dead girlfriend

The decision of a Surin Television director to marry his dead girlfriend and post the pictures and video of the event to Facebook and YouTube is receiving mixed reactions from the people at large.

Chadil Deffy alias Deff Yingyuen married his long term girlfriend of 10 years, 29-year old Sarinya “Anne” Kamsook, early this month in a bizarre wedding-cum-funeral even as her corpse lay in a coffin at the Tri Vivek temple in Surin Province in North Eastern Thailand, reported the Pattaya Daily News.

The 28-year-old groom commonly called ‘Dave,’ during the nuptials wearing a black tuxedo carefully lifted his late girlfriend’s hand and placed a ring on her finger. The dead bride Sarinya lay on a raised platform attired in a white bridal costume.

Later, the bridegroom uploaded pictures of himself and his dead bride on his personal Facebook page under an album captioned "Corpse Bride." He even uploaded a video to YouTube, which very quickly spread like wild fire.

Both of them fell in love while studying at the Eastern Asia University ten years ago and had planned to get married but the woman had died in an accident on the evening of January 3, 2012.

It was while studying at the Eastern Asia University about a decade ago that the couple met and fell in love. They had planned to marry but Sarinya unfortunately lost her life in a car accident on January 3, 2012.

A friend of Chadil Deffy called Onsiri Pravattiyagul, wrote his viewpoint about the bizarre wedding in an opinion column this week in The Bangkok Post: Onsiri supported his friend, Onsiri says this "wedding" was Defft’s attempt to set right a wrong, however late the action may have been.

Expectedly in the beginning there was a flood of sympathy for the “bridegroom” and wave of sentimental comments. Those romantic at heart were said to be deeply touched by this act of “true love,” however bizarre. And it seemed to have touched a cord with scores of people.

Even the media picked up on the grapevine and splashed the story all over. Chadil Deffy expectedly came under the spotlight, going through an unexpected short time of fame. But then this was too good to be true, because within a few days, the backlash started. And to put it mildly it wasn’t kind at all.

In a blink of an eye, Chadil Dheffy went from being cherished as a hopeless romantic to being maligned as a publicity-crazy opportunist. Now Onsiri Pravattiyagul informs his friend, Chadil Deffy is heartbroken.

According to Onsiri, Chadil was not thinking of gaining fame or publicity when he decided to put a ring on his dead girlfriend’s cold finger. “He merely wanted to make things right, however small or inadequate the gesture might seem. And, yes, Deffy has always been a little eccentric,” clarified Onsiri.

Point is if that was the only intention of Chadil Deffy, why did he have to post the video of the ceremony with a provocative title "Corpse Bride." Does it not look like a blatant attempt to attract attention of multitudes with a shocking title and equally shocking act? What do the readers have to say about this act - Genuine lover or Attention seeker!!! Would love to know your opinion?

Human Barbie’ Gives 7-Year-Old Daughter Liposuction Voucher

ht poppy sarah human barbie burge ll 120105 wblog Human Barbie Gives 7 Year Old Daughter Liposuction Voucher
Closer Magazine

The UK’s self-proclaimed “Human Barbie” gave her 7-year-old daughter an unusual stocking stuffer this Christmas: a £7,000 voucher for liposuction.  The holiday gift was a follow-up to Poppy’s most recent birthday present from her mum: A £6,000 voucher for breast augmentation.
‘She asks for surgery all the time. She wants to look good and lipo is one of those procedures that will always come in handy,” 51-year-old Sarah Burge told the UK’s Daily Mail. “I see these vouchers as investing in her future, like saving money for her education.”
Last year Burge, who says she taught her daughter how to pole dance when the girl was 6, defended giving her daughter a breast augmentation voucher when she told Closer Magazine, “Poppy begged me for a boob job, so I gave her the voucher so she can have it after she’s 16, when it’s legal. If she develops naturally big boobs, she can have something else done with it.”
The mother says that her other daughters, ages 27 and 17, have already had work done. As for Burge, the Daily Mail reported that she rang in her 51st birthday with £51,000 of cosmetic surgery.
Burge has reportedly spent close to $ 1 million on her own plastic surgery endeavors. She works as an event planner for plastic surgery and swinging parties, and dabbles as a scribe of erotic novels.
“Some people think it’s controversial and I get angry when strangers say I’m a bad mother because I don’t think there’s any harm in giving her this gift,” Burge told the mag. “Poppy is a normal kid who is good at sports and loves playing outside. Girls don’t want Snow White and Cinderella any more.
“They want to be WAGs [a British term to describe wives and girlfriends of high-profile soccer stars], and famous like Cheryl Cole and Lady Gaga,” Burge said. “I’m just supporting her and making her dreams come true. Looks are a big part of how our futures pan out – there shouldn’t be a stigma around wanting to look good.”
As for Poppy, she said of her voucher, “I can’t wait to be like Mummy with big boobs. They’re pretty.”
With the rise of shows like “Toddlers & Tiaras” and other age-bending television dramas, many experts question whether girls’ expectations and their ideas of beauty and sexuality are getting to dangerously unsuitable levels.
In response to the issue of the sexualization of girls in the media, the American Psychological Association created a task force.
“We don’t want kids to grow up too fast,” Shari Miles-Cohen, senior director of women’s programs for the American Psychological Association, told ABCNews.com in August. “We want them to be able to develop physically, emotionally, psychologically and socially at appropriate rates for their age.”
As a mother to a 12-year-old girl, Dr. Ari Brown, author of the book “Baby 411,” acknowledged the difficulty in shielding her from the sexualization of girls and the objectification of women in society.
“Childhood is a time to learn about the world, explore, pretend, imagine and create in a safe vacuum of innocence,” she told ABCNews.com in September. “Bypassing those critical life experiences and developmental stages by trying to dress, act and be treated like an adult leaves these children lacking important life skills that help them be confident and successful adults.”

Female superhero Chinese Redbud Woman appears in Beijing

20121231-chinese-redbud-05
This May, a female “superhero” appeared in Hong Kong, wearing low-cut black tights and blue mask, called herself “Zijing Woman” (紫荆侠) or “Chinese Redbud Woman”. She handed out food and cash to some Hong Kong residents. The mysterious masked female vigilante received great attention in Hong Kong.
However, on December 24, a “female superhero” also appeared in Beijing, wearing exactly the same outfit as the “Chinese Redbud Woman” of Hong Kong.

“Today is my first day as the Chinese Redbud Woman, feeling a little nervous. Already prepared the military coats and food for the elderlies, also many thanks to the hand warner friend gave me.” She called herself Chinese Redbud Woman in her microblog, mysteriously appeared on the cold streets of Beijing on Christmas Eve, in front of the Wangfujing Bookstore, at the Xidan subway station and other places, distributed clothing and gifts to beggars and homeless. Beijing residents and netizens also started to talk about her.

Who is this beautiful woman? Why is she doing that? Reporter contacted the “Beijing Chinese Redbud Woman” via private message on microblog. She said that it does not matter who she is and also stated that what she did was not a publicity stunt, “just wanted to help these people who are in need.”

According to Sichuan Online:
Recently, since the female superhero “Chinese Redbud Woman” appeared in Hong Kong, another “Chinese Redbud Woman” also appeared in Beijing, also wearing low-cut black tights and blue mask, claimed on her microblog that she will continue to spread the warmth. Only a dozen of tweets, she already had over 7,000 fans. “Beijing Chinese Redbud Woman’s” first activity was on Christmas Eve: first gave the military coat to the old man on Xiushui Street, then sent food and coats to the elders in from of the Wangfujing Bookstore. Because Beijing Chinese Redbud Woman was only wearing a black veil, the old lady kept asking her if she is cold…
After reading Beijing Zijing Woman’s microblog, netizens both praised and criticized her, however there is only one consensus, her attire is not so suitable for the winter.
Some comments:
“What a body ~~”
“This is another kind of charity, sexy charity.”
“For sure her motivation is to become famous. Is it necessary to dress like this when doing good?”
“Her breasts are really big.”

Women prefer odour of men's shaved armpit

Men’s shaved armpits smell better to women as compared to wildly grown ones, a new study has found.

For the study, a group of scientists from Czech Republic had male participants shave one armpit and let the other grow wild.

The researchers then collected odour samples from each of the men’s pits and passed them under the noses of a group of females, who then rated how attractive they found each odour.

They found that the women preferred the smell of the shaved pits, but just barely.

“Altogether, the effect of shaving is not quite large,” Livescience quoted Jan Havlicek, the lead researcher from Charles University in Prague as saying.

According to Havlicek, the effect of shaving was “transient”.

The researchers also found that the study’s female participants found the smell of freshly shaven pits more pleasant than pits that had been growing hair for six to 10 weeks, but they could not distinguish between the smell of armpits that had one week of growth and those that had six to 10 weeks of growth.

I can't validate that as I don't go around smelling men's armpit. If any weirdos do that, please share here.

Woman sleepwalks to her death

Sleepwalking is no laughing matter and it occurs to many of us without us realising it. You may even die from sleepwalking just like this woman.

A 55-year-old  woman in US sleepwalked into a lake and drowned.

Charlene Ferrero left her Oaklyn, New Jersey apartment Saturday night and fell from a train trestle into a lake, and drowned - all while she was asleep.

Her body was pulled out from Newton Lake by search crews.

Ferrero worked as a waitress at the Starview Diner in Somerdale, New Jersey. Her co-workers are just as baffled as her friends over her tragic end.

The autopsy ruled Ferrero's death an accident, though it will take several weeks for results of the toxicology report. Medications such as sleep aid Ambien have been known to cause sleepwalking.

For sleepwalkers, is it safer to chain ourselves?

Inspired by action movie, Chinese man bombs bank van in an attempted robbery

Wang Haijian

A man arrested for bombing a bank in China that killed two people and injured 15 others said he was inspired from the plot of a Chinese action movie.
Wang Haijian, 24, is accused of causing the explosion near a branch of the China Construction Bank in Wuhan, capital of Hubei province, Dec 1.
Police said Wang and his friends planned to blow up a cash delivery truck, having seen a similar incident in Chinese action movie “The Underdog Knight 2″, the Shanghai Daily reported.
Wang reportedly experimented with homemade explosives and suffered damage to his left eye, lost two teeth and sustained many smaller facial wounds, police said.
His friends quit after the experiments failed but Wang persevered and finally made the explosives.
When he put his plan into practice and detonated the explosives, the cash delivery truck he targeted was undamaged because a private car blocked it, police said.

Police later identified Wang, a native of Zaoyang in Hubei, as the suspect, saying he had been caught on surveillance cameras.
Wang was arrested at the Wuhan General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Command when he was sleeping in the waiting room of the hospital after two nurses saw he had five detonators with him and informed the police.

Wang, an air conditioner repairman working in Wuhan, lived in a village in the city's Donghu New Technology Development Zone before the explosion. But the police were unable to find him.

They publicized his photo and offered a 100,000 yuan (RM50,000) reward for information that led to his arrest.

Wang admitted making home-made explosive devices and attempting to rob an armored car by detonating a bomb.
Wang’s parents have apologised to the blast victims.

Finnish man stops traffic on a busy street in China using Tai Chi

There are many eccentric people around. Not long ago, a Chinese man practiced his yoga in the middle of a busy street causing the city centre to a near gridlock. This time it's a Finnish guy that stops busy traffic using Tai Chi.

A Finnish foreign language teacher jumps onto the road and uses tai chi to force cars to stop at a zebra crossing for pedestrians. The man – dubbed "foreign uncle" – has been working as a language teacher in Fuzhou, Fujian province for 11 years and became frustrated with Chinese drivers failing to stop.

Ma Ruinan, his Chinese name, has a strong interest in the country’s culture and decided to use taichi when crossing the road, like in this photo taken on Dec 12, 2011. "Tai chi is so grace and deliberate," he said. "But why are Chinese drivers always in a hurry? Isn’t common sense for cars to stop for pedestrians?"

Chinese man jailed for organising strip show for son's wedding.

A Chinese man, whose unusual idea of arranging a strip show at his son's wedding reception had the whole village flock to the performance, has been handed a prison term of six months.

On the other hand, the stripper who unleashed the "special performance," has been awarded five months of "forced labour" by a court in the eastern Jiangsu province.

Zhang Cheng, a villager of Fengxian County, arranged a strip dance engaging Li Wei to unleash a "special performance" at the wedding reception of his son's special day in October.

Word of the spectacle spread like a wildfire and more than 200 villagers flocked to the reception in about five minutes to watch the performance, Shanghai Daily reported. Zhang, however, landed in police custody when the strip show was reported to police who arrested him the very next day.

Zhang and Li were subsequently found guilty of organising a pornographic performance. Zhang was sentenced to six months in prison with a one-year reprieve, while Li was sentenced to five months of forced labour with an eight-month reprieve.

Man arrested for masturbating during bus ride

He was having a little too much fun on this ride.

A Brooklyn man was busted on a Philly-Chinatown bus yesterday for pleasuring himself in front of disgusted fellow riders, police said.

“He was staring back at me the whole time,” horrified passenger Iliana Martinez, 37, told The Post. “He wanted me to see him. He gave me a dirty look, like: ‘Look what I’m doing on the bus.’ ”

Martinez, of Blackwood, NJ, got on the bus in Philadelphia for a cheap ride into the city to visit her sister.

It’s a trip she often makes with her 18-year-old daughter, who was not with her this time. Genrong Zhang was sitting in front of her, and when she realized what he was doing, “I kicked his chair” to get him to stop, she said.

“He looked back at me and smirked. It’s sick. My daughter could have been with me.”

Martinez called the cops, prompting the bus driver to pull over at Pike Street and Broadway.

“They locked the doors and told everyone to stay calm,” Martinez said.

Meanwhile, Zhang, 39, of Brooklyn, pretended to be asleep, Martinez said.

But cops weren’t fooled, and hauled Zhang away, charging him with public lewdness.

“I was scared and I was offended,” Martinez said. “It was really disrespectful.

“He’s a jerk-off,” she said. “He deserves that name.”

Nude German woman buys cigarrettes at a gas station

A gas station in Dömitz, Germany got some publicity in the German tabloids after a woman strolled in to buy cigarettes. Now, that in itself is not newsworthy.

What is, however, is that the blond, tattooed woman was buck-freaking-naked, save for a pair of gold stiletto heels and a bracelet. After casually going about her business inside the station's convenience store, she walked back out, climbed into the passenger seat of a waiting Ferrari F430, and drove off.

The employee inside the shop was unfazed, telling reporters, "I wasn't surprised. She's come in naked before. She's a very nice woman." Her birthday-suit shopping trip was caught on camera by another customer at the filling station, and those pictures made it into the German tabs, where nudity is not an obstacle. This kind of stuff never happens around us when we run into the Mobil for a cup of coffee.

Naked woman disrupts traffic by doing yoga on top of a cab in protest against Afghanistan war

Stripping off and clambering on top of a Black Cab in front of the Houses of Parliament is not the usual way to practice yoga.

But that’s exactly what one demonstrator did, in a five-minute-long peaceful protest against the war in Afghanistan.

The nude woman, thought to be in her 30s, adapted the classic auspicious pose – legs crossed – on the roof of the vehicle while the taxi driver tried unsuccessfully to persuade her to get down.

She then stood, making the ‘peace’ sign with her fingers, while shouting, ‘Troops out of Afghanistan’, in Westminster Square, London, yesterday.

Astonished tourists looked on and took photos while traffic ground to a halt as police officers arrived and managed to remove the naked protestor, covering her modesty with a sheet.

Carl Backland, 50, who photographed the incident, said: 'I was on my way home from work when I spotted this woman stripping off.

'Then she jumped on the top of the cab when it stopped at the lights.

'The cab driver wasn't very pleased to say the least. There were loads of tourists around they couldn't believe it.

‘They were all taking pictures on their mobile phones. It stopped the traffic but I thought the police handed it well.

'They let her finish the yoga session and then sort of gently cajoled her into coming down.'

Woman asking for money to go back to the past

A Chinese woman has been asking for money on the street, insisting that she has to go back to the past where she comes from, local media reported.

The woman has sold flowers in Kaifeng, Hunan Province located in the central part of the country. What she sells are potted chrysanthemums, which have high price tags as much as 10,000 yuan, almost 1.8 million won, each.

She has insisted that she comes from the Sung Dynasty, the imperial dynasty of China from 960 to 1279, noted for art, literature and philosophy. To prove she really comes from that time, she performs a traditional dance of the era, wearing its costume. She has a panel that contains a poem of the Sung dynasty, which she recites sadly.

“The flower does not wither although it was planted in the Sung Dynasty,” she said, explaining the reason why it was so expensive. “I have no choice but to sell the flower because I am too poor to go back to the past.”

Meanwhile, there was a similar case in China last July. A woman in a celestial robe of a fairy asked for money at a subway station in Shanghai, saying that she wanted to go back 500 years.
“She may have read too many novels or watched a lot of dramas,” “That’s so pathetic!” and “Don’t mention Sung Dynasty. Just ask for some money” are a few of the comments from netizens.

Giving this lady the benefit of the doubt, probably she needs some money to buy a time machine just exactly like the movie, Back To The Future to return to her era. What do you think?

Man practicing yoga in the middle of a busy road

A Chinese man brought a city centre to near gridlock by practising yoga in the middle of a busy road.

Traffic was reduced to a crawl after the man got out his mat in the middle of Guangzhou, Guangdong province, in the middle of the morning rush hour.

Horns blasted out around the city as the congestion spread to neighbouring roads, reports the Nanfang Daily.

A police spokesman said: "Luckily he only practised for an hour, otherwise the whole city's transportation system would have ground to a halt."

Man eats roadkill animals for the past 30 years

Jonathan McGowan, an English taxidermist from Bournemouth, Dorset doesn’t like the way farm animals are being treated and has led him to eat roadkill instead of supermarket meat for the last 30 years.

44-year-old Jonathan McGowan first tasted roadkill at the age of 14, when he cooked a dead adder. It didn’t taste very good, but it did make him curious about how other dead animals might taste like. ‘From a young age I was always interested in natural history and being brought up amongst the farming, hunting and shooting communities of the Dorset countryside meant I was right in the middle of everything. Everywhere I looked there were dead animals; fish that had been caught, pheasants that had been shot and animals that had been run over in the road so naturally I became drawn to nature and how it worked.” He remembers he used to cut up dead animals to see their insides and all he could see was fresh organic meat better than what he saw in any meat shops. That’s why he didn’t see any problem with cooking and eating it. His parents knew he was bringing animals home to stuff, but he didn’t tell them he sometimes ate them too, because he knew they wouldn’t approve.

Although he admits he first started eating roadkill out of his teenage desire to be different, Jonathan McGowan says that even at 14 he realized what he was doing was better than eating supermarket meat because of the ways animals are treated. He remembers growing up close to a broiler production unit where there were always three layers of chickens. The dead, rotting birds at the bottom, the squashed ones in the middle and the chicken who could barely move, at the top. ’I saw how dirty farm animals were and how unhealthy they were. I was also used to going to the cattle market where the treatment of the animals by the farmers was grotesque. I wasn’t happy about what I saw at all,’ he says.

McGowan, who has been eating roadkill for the last 30 years, has been giving presentations at schools and colleges and throwing roadkill dinner parties for his friends. What’s on the menu, you ask? Rat stir fries and owl curry are very popular, but pigeon au vin and other recipes containing meats like fox, hedgehog, squirrel or wild cat are also said to be very tasty. The taxidermist never kills the animals, he only picks those that have died accidentally on the road and in the surrounding woodland. When they hear about his eating habits, most people believe it’s a brilliant idea, but there are those who think it’s cruel, unhygienic and macabre. Jonathan says his choice “is rooted in respect for the environment” and says that if there was no more roadkill available he would be a vegetarian rather than eating shop meat pumped full of hormones.

I couldn't imagine myself having the appetite like McGowan to eat smashed up animals ran over by cars. Eewww...
