Have we taken our parents for granted?

This evening I saw my neighbour, an old man in his mid 50s, cleaning and washing 2 of his cars. I had mix feelings for him as I can see how much a father loves his children and how much his children took him for granted. Every week, he faithfully washes the cars that are frequently driven by his 2 teenage children. I believe he services the cars, pump gas into it to keep it running and also keeping the cars clean. Every now and then I see his children taking out the cars with their bunch of friends to go for a jolly ride but leaving their father to pick up the bill and hassle of keeping the car in tip top condition. Every week, I will see this old man sacrificing for his children without complain.

Indeed our parents love for us is unconditional. With their sweat from their brow, they toiled to put food on the table and to keep their children's needs are met. Some of us may not be financially ready yet to help out parents but the least we can do is to lighten their burden in anyway and be sensitive towards their feelings.

In the Quran, it is clearly stated as one the commandments to honour our parents as long as we live. Parents are to be treated equally with kindness and humility. As we reflect, our days with our parents are numbered and when they are no longer with us, it is too late for us to turn back time to show our love and appreciation.

Therefore I besiege all of you and even myself to start to take our parents seriously. We can show our appreciation to them in many ways and to tell them that they are always important to us. Honouring them does not only earn us reward in heaven but also strengthen the bond between us and our parents.

I hope one day the children of the old man will come to their senses on how much love and sacrifice their parents has poured out to them and to return their love before it's too late to regret.

Shopping Spree

On 17 May 2011 from 9am to 12pm, Robinsons The Gardens, Mid Valley had a 3-hour sale. It was a haven for both men and women. There are enticing discounts for men's shoes, clothes and wallets. While for women, there discounts for handbags, purse, shoes and jewelries. There are also discounts for kids clothings, baby stuffs and also some household products. Most women love handbags and shoes and I wouldn't want to miss out on this. I brought a friend along and he had a good time shopping too.

I headed for the handbags and purse section as I wanted to get one. Branded handbags such as Guess, CK, CK Jeans, Sisley, Valentino Rudy, Pierre Cardin, DKNY, United Colors Of Benetton and many more were on discount up to 70%. I managed to get myself a United Colors Of Benetton purse for RM84 and a Guess handbag for RM180. My friend managed to buy 2 collar T-shirts by Ashworth for RM50 and Renoma for RM36.

We were there at 10am and the place was packed with people. How do I find out the sales? From http://www.shoppingnsales.com/. Well, anyone of you who loves good bargains, Robinsons Sale is not to be missed.

P/S: Psstt... The Levis jeans wasn't from Robinsons. You can get a pair at good deal at Wangsa Walk, Levis Factory Outlet. They shifted from Carrefour, Wangsa Maju.

Test Drive Review of the Kia Forte Koup

Today I went to Test Drive Kia On Tour 2011 at 1 Utama, LG Oval. I wanted to test drive the new Kia Forte Koup and I managed to get behind the wheel of the sleek coupe for a 15 minutes test drive.
The sexy Kia Forte Koup is powered by a 2.0 DOHC MPI CVVT Theta II engine that produces a respectable 156ps and 194Nm of torque.  All the power goes through the 6-speed shift-tronic  gearbox with paddle shifters which shift seamless through all the clogs. The car is lively when pushed hard but not tarmac burning though. I find that the engine noise starts to intrude into the cabin when the RPM needle passes 4500 rpm.
The Forte is fitted with MacPherson strut at the front and torsion beam at the rear. The car handles pretty well through the corners and car’s ride is on the firm side but not bone-jarring.  Road noise is evident as the car is fitted with a 17” inch rims with a set of 215/45 low profile tyres.
One of the strengths of Kia Forte Koup and its siblings, the Forte sedan are its state of the art technology and an array of accessories. The coupe comes with frameless doors, ABS, ESP, 6 airbags, a cool sliding power sunroof, leather bucket seats, keyless entry, engine start/stop button, steering control that has audio and auto cruise. If entertainment on the go is your cup of tea, the car is packed with 6 CD changer in-car entertainment system that supports USB and iPOD connections.
This car comes with a price tag of RM115,800 OTR with insurance. Many of us still questions KIA’s resale value but since KIA has improved a lot in design and quality throughout the years, it is still too early to judge on the Forte’s resale as it’s about only a year in the market and I’ve not seen a lot of Forte selling in the used car market yet.

A "homeless" generation

When can I own my dream home? Where do I find the money to buy a house? These are the questions that constantly plague the new generation of first-time house buyers. Many young adults are struggling to buy a house due to the escalating prices of houses in Klang Valley and Penang.

Property prices in urban areas such as Penang and Kuala Lumpur rose by up to 40 per cent last year fuelled by low interest rates and a surge in speculative buying whereby investors snapped up multiple properties in hope that prices keep on rocketing upwards.

The prices of houses are exorbitant and it is beyond reach of an average income earner. The average price of a KL residential property is now about RM485,000, or roughly nine times the average urban household annual income of RM54,000 and there will be a possible sign that the market is heading for a bubble.

The Demographia International Housing Affordability Survey rates markets, whose property prices are 5.1 times median income or more, as “severely unaffordable”. The sharp increase in prices of houses are far outpacing income growth thus creating many who are unable to buy a house. Some have resorted to buying a house far from the city resulting lengthy commutes to work.

Secondary markets of older homes are not cheap either and one may need to fork out more money for house repairs.

The government imposed RPGT (Real Property Gain Tax) has been less effective in curbing the escalating prices of houses. The high prices of property in urban areas prompted the Najib administration to introduce a first-home ownership scheme in March in addition to the loan-to-value ratio cap in a bid to stave off discontent.

The government’s My First Home Scheme launched in March will enable young adults aged up to 35 and earning less than RM3,000 to get 100 per cent financing to buy houses worth between RM100,000 and RM220,000 with a repayment period of up to 30 years. However, lawyers and bankers say the first-home ownership scheme will not help those who take home RM3,000 in total household income as the amount will not cover loan repayments due to rising prices for food, other basic necessities and utilities.

Polis bagaimanapun sehingga kini belum mengenal pasti motif perbuatan jenayah suspek berkenaan.

Timbalan Ketua Jabatan Siasatan Jenayah Kuala Lumpur, Asisten Komisioner Khairi Ahrasa berkata, dalam tempoh dua hari lalu, empat laporan polis diterima membabitkan lima orang mangsa.

Utusan Malaysia

Price increase for Engine Oil

Changing engine oil in our vehicles has become costlier after the increase of crude oil globally. I felt the brunt of it when I purchased a pack of lubricant.

I serviced my car today and I've been searching high and low for a reasonable priced of branded engine oil. Usually I will settle for my car manufacturer's engine oil but since my car's warranty is over, I will use engine oils such as Mobil, Castrol, Shell or Petronas which I will buy from the petrol station or hypermarkets. I'm always wary of where I buy my engine oils as there are cases of recycled engine oils in the market. Just in case you don't know what it is, recycled engine oil is where used oils are being processed and repack as new and sold to unsuspecting buyers. Recycled engine oils are of low quality and it is harmful to your car after prolong use.

With the rise in crude oil price globally, I bought a pack of 4 litres Shell HX 7 semi-synthetic engine oil (I use semi-synthetic only) for RM103.80 from a nearby Shell petrol station. I remembered that I bought a pack of 4 litres Mobil S semi-synthetic for only RM79 last year. Maintaining a car is getting costlier besides the additional burden from the rising prices of food and petrol in our homeland.

The price increase in lubricants has dented my monthly budget and I need to change my lifestyle like what our government has asked its people to do. If you'll excuse me, I'm cycling out to buy a packet of instant noodle for my dinner.
